[Sasuke is sitting on the roof of CH2, a bit out of the way and with a good overview of the place. He is resting his elbows on his knees, and is holding a black fabric pouch in his hands. He is waiting, patiently, for Itachi to come up here to tend his garden, or whatever other number of things he comes up here to do.
He is staring unseeingly at the pouch, turning it in his hands. Inside was Itachi's belated birthday present, and Sasuke was still debating with himself whether it was an as good idea as he had first thought, or if he should give in to the urge to throw it into one of the lakes. But since he had already mentioned the gift to Itachi he can't really back out, and he remains sitting, waiting.]

Because he noticed Itachi's garden, and having little knowledge or insight, he doesn't realize that Itachi is growing edible things, or that he might not be interested in strange jungle plants. They had looked rare and interesting to him, but what did Sasuke know about flowers? Awkward silence goes here.]
Thought not knowing what they'll become might be more interesting.

There might be a rafflesia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafflesia_tuan-mudae) mixed in there, too, which might warrant being wary of as well, as they grow big enough to eat faces.]

He doesn't recognize any of the seeds, not that he expected to, and planting them without doing research wouldn't be the best of ideas. Still, he's touched by the consideration.

[The words are, again, somehow difficult to hear - it's not right, for Itachi to thank his murderer for anything. But seeing him smile makes things feel a bit better. Sasuke almost wants to smile back, but doesn't. He isn't in the habit enough. His voice brightens just a little, though.]

[Rather than his brother being the type of person who has everything, it was more like he needed nothing. (Much like Sasuke himself, but as usual, Itachi probably beat him even in this.) Sasuke couldn't even prepare a shūgi bukuro, since this place had no money. It couldn't be helped, so he had tried to think of something that would be used, and wouldn't involve carrying or storage space. Sasuke sits down again.]

[He could have, and Itachi honestly wouldn't have minded, but he understood Sasuke's reasoning. That didn't make it any more easy to accept gifts from him after everything that had happened between them.]

[Grateful? The guilt eating at him is coming to the surface rather suddenly. It's not even just the guilt, it's everything. It keeps wanting to spill, and Sasuke obviously isn't strong enough to contain it properly. (Something else you beat him at, Itachi.) Won't stop him from trying, though. He grits his teeth, there's a hiss to his tone.]

And one tiny gray fuzzball curled up on your couch, sleeping peacefully.
(... yes, the cat is house-trained. He was that considerate.)
And being not around means you have to track him down or call for him over the journal to ask why in hell did he suddenly decide you needed a pet.
Though if you think about it, the reasoning isn't too hard to figure out.]

[Itachi notices that someone has been in his apartment immediately, but is hardly bothered by this given how little there is to steal. He assumes the trespasser was someone he knows, and though he isn't positive on the exact one his suspicions are confirmed when he notices the "gift".
He spends a good few long moments simply staring at it blankly before he automatically begins going about the job of checking to make sure he has everything he needs to feed and take care of it.
At least until he can figure out what he's going to do with it.

Don't know what a nin-cat is like, but maybe someone thought you could do with some unobtrusive companionship.
Perhaps this someone should reconsider their definition of "unobtrusive".
