[The effect is immediate as soon as the cuffs touch bare skin. Monstrous chakra levels plummet free-fall to a tepid level that could generously be described as 'normal'. All pathways having anything to do with Devil Fruit powers come to a complete and shuddering stop.]

[Leaning forward.] Ha... [Give him a moment to adjust. It's been awhile since he's felt the full effects of seastone anything, even though...] These cuffs aren't pure seastone, so it only robs me of my abilities and a good deal of my strength. I can still move around. [Still put up a bit of a fight if it came down to it.]

If it was pure seastone, like on the end of the Marine's jitte, it would take everything not necessary for life and consciousness.

[He's felt that distinctive unpleasant energy from the Marine's weapon. Was close enough on that mission to sense it. And the Marine has said as much before. Other sources of seastone indeed.]

That I know of, yes.

[Where you say considerate, Law views as pure efficiency in prisoner transport. Easier to make the pirate walk than to carry him after all.

Ah... balance. Necessity. While being in Luceti has caused Law to... appreciate better the merits of a justice system in some capacity (and even recognize the necessity... force him to privately see why a force for Luceti wouldn't be bad), the Marines themselves? Were too far gone. In whole they were just as bad as the pirates, the good ones far too rare and getting rarer.

And, again. Eustass did put it best. What a world it was when pirates were the honest villains of the lot.

Because.

They had never claimed to be righteous. Had no claim.

Pirates are not good men.

The Marines were supposed to be.]

[Nodding.]

Making keys to the lock, and molds to the original key. By Friday, all us pirates should have a copy and a means to forge new keys if it's needed. And there will be plenty of extras.

When the Marine finds out about it, it will make him think twice about resorting to those particular cuffs.

[In other words, deterrence.]

Like the jitte? He'd use that anyway. [Getting Law down to put the cuffs on would take... work.] And it likely wouldn't stop at the handcuffs. [Marines aren't kind. He rubs his wrists.] I'm willing to take more physical abuse as long as it meant I had a better chance to extricate myself from the situation.

[He knows it potentially could turn worse as well with no hope of escape... but that threat had always been there. Multiple Devil Fruits users, only one pair of cuffs. And it may not be only Smoker to worry about.

It's in his voice.]

Besides, it might turn out to be a blessing in disguise for him. [Glancing to the side.] If he ultimately decides to capture someone, or worse and more probable is Shifted and tries something, getting the person out of trouble is a lot easier. Otherwise he'd have to be hunted down and the key likely taken by force if the lock couldn't be picked. And that would be messy all around.

[Nodding. He knows. And it helps. Catches him from leaping into potentially hot water.]

Of course. There's plenty.

[One in his pocket, actually. He fishes it out.]

Here's one.

[Quietly:] They're going back tomorrow. I don't want to hang onto them too long. It would be pushing it. Miss Robin's already had them a long time.

And I know she has other mischief planned.

Uh uh.

[It's a sure recipe for problems.]

If I'm not back by dinnertime, then I've run into trouble.

[A faint smile:] Your cooking? I'll move heaven and earth for.

[He'll be back by dinner.]
