[This afternoon finds one CHEERFUL(?) Itachi walking out of the grocery, a bright SMILE(?) on his face and a full bag in his arms. He's HUMMING(??) something under his breath, a light bounce to his step.

He pulls out his journal casually, sending an unfiltered message to his brother.]

Sasuke. Are you recovering well?

[All of this is, of course, completely out of character for the ninja and possibly disturbing to anyone familiar with him.]

[...that smile is kind of creepy, and she doesn't even know you, man. Apparently whatever effect she's under hasn't messed with her adrenaline.

[He bows his head slightly.] I am Uchiha Itachi.

It's hard to credence Shikamaru's words when faced with this. But he wouldn't lie to her...]

Oh. You're much bigger. Have you been doing well?

Oh that's right. We haven't met properly as adults, have we?

I have been doing quite well lately, thank you. Though I'm afraid my brother came down with an illness during the draft and is still recovering.

[Shikamaru hadn't mentioned Sasuke. Katara had thought he'd killed every member of his family.]

My brother, yes. He's a fairly recent arrival, but was called in for the draft all the same.

They don't seem to care much about that.

I supposed I never mentioned him.

...but she also recognizes an opening for escape, and she's gonna go for it. She makes to start walking towards the store again.]

I'm glad to hear that. I hope the time you have in Luceti with him is a good time.

...Seriously, what is going on? She should probably find out. Sometime. Maybe tomorrow. Eventually.]

I hope so too. It's a good opportunity to start over.

[He watches her turn away, but doesn't follow.]

[Katara raises her hand and forces herself to run-not-walk away.

Man. She really should talk to Shikamaru. Oh well, she's sure she'll remember it the next time she sees him.]
