twenty-five crows (朱) action/voice

[Private message to Sasuke, left this morning]

Are you still here, little brother?

[End message]

[Itachi has remained surprisingly unaffected by the current event, something he is positive of and incredibly glad for. While such events had helped move along his relationship with Law in the first place, he has no desire to add further complications on top of this.

Not wanting to remain cooped up in the house, and hoping that any chance for him to be affected from here on out has since past, the ninja can be found feeding birds near the fountain at the center of town. It's been a while since he's done this, despite it being a past-time he enjoys. It's also a good way to get out and learn about current events without simply sitting with his journal laid open all day.

The only odd thing about this scenario is that, despite the variety of birds that can be found within the village, the majority of those alighting to pick at the scattered breadcrumbs are crows.]

Ace has been brought back seven different times though. Maybe they were just trying to get it right, eh?

He's usually pretty familiar to a lot of people. He gets out a lot. Orange cowboy hat and a billion freckles. He's friends with Law too.

He's my best friend. And my baby brother. I don't think there's anyone I'm closer with.

Not really. Ace is Ace. When he got in trouble, Pops and I had to round up ever ally I could. We had over fifty thousand ready to risk their lives just to give him a chance to survive, and some of them were just people he'd only met once, but they were willing to risk a war that would tear the world apart.

Ace means the world to me in a lot of ways, but he had that effect on a lot of people. I just gave up fighting it years ago and came to peace with the terms of it.

[The grin fades a little. He came to peace with Ace becoming an instantly wildly important part of his life, but not with the removal of that insertion. It was strange really. Back then, he would have sworn anything that coming to terms with Ace being an inevitable part of his life would have been the harder part, but it had wound up so easy. Losing Ace? It was becoming ever bit as difficult as losing his father. Or maybe it was just that he lost them both at the same time.]

Very much so. He's the kind of kid who changed the world just by existing.

Mah, probably not a good idea, though it's interesting to consider.

Aye. Though I'm willing to bet that the Malnosso already have a good list of it themselves. Hell, if they aren't trying to bring people here, just send them home, it might be why Ace kept getting sent back so often.

Aye. I wonder if we could devise our own code to keep everything in though. The wings translate languages, but not necessarily codes, right?

They can, but it would slow them down, and we have two of the best code crackers in the world at our disposal, and I doubt they have that at theirs.

If the code is good enough it could slow them down years, by which time it'd be outdated.

Isn't it the wings that bypass the language barriers though? So if a code was made that bypasses languages entirely, it might be feasible. There is pretty much always a marine listening in on every den den mushi call made in the world back home, so the only way to get reliable communication is codes. And while they have Vegapunk on their side, they've tasked him with making robots or cyborgs or whatever, so the geniuses they have working on the codes can't figure out which one we were using until we've already changed it.

But if they warp the reality of which people seem most connected to others, wouldn't that force someone else to take that spot and by extension, continue a reaction? It would still help deal with the Malnosso, because just by trying to deal with us, they'd be changing the nature of it, eh?
