[Itachi is at the edge of the forest today, dressed warmly, with a small bag of birdseed in one hand. There aren't many birds around, given the weather, but there are a couple strays. There's also a couple squirrels, of course, who seem just as determined to get at what he's throwing out. The trees keep the animals mostly protected against the light snowfall, while the ninja has a dusting of flakes in his hair.

He speaks to the journal only after a while.]

...Where do the birds go, I wonder? Once the air chills. Can they get beyond the barrier to places we cannot?

And what sort of creature would you be, if I might ask?

I am an Illusionist, a creature that feeds on the souls of the living to survive. Although I have found it easy to explain to the humans living in the village that I mean no harm, many of the creatures residing in the forest prefer to stick by their first instincts.

I'm unsurprised that there are those here who would volunteer to have you feed on them if it isn't a life-threatening procedure.

That is correct, yes. Were I incapable of surviving without bringing harm to those living in the village, I doubt I would be able to live here quite so peacefully.

It is. The situation in my previous world was far less convenient, due to the reputation of my kind.

Is it safe to assume creatures such as myself do not exist in your world?

That is most fortunate. I would so hate to learn that other worlds have to deal with such monsters.

I suppose I do not. They are incapable of understanding the pain felt by other creatures and care little for the lives of those they feed upon.

Unlike you. So how did you decide on the moral high-ground?

Unlike my sisters, I was created with a conscience. Or rather, I am capable of having emotion whereas they are not.

Were I to take the life of an innocent creature, I would be consumed with guilt and quite unable to stand myself thereafter.

Perhaps the animals will grow used to your presence after a time.

Perhaps, although I would be surprised if such a thing were to occur. I spent a great of my life outdoors and never has a wild animal put its trust in me.
